Sherlockian Holmesian

1. What is the aim of the site?

To bring forward the figure of Sherlock Holmes and the values connected with him, emphasizing the detective’s effects on culture and criminology. Paying homage to the wonderful genius, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who was a very humble man and a polymath.

We try to cover classic and modern themes to offer interesting topics for younger and older visitors as well.

2. Is there a forum on the site?

No, we are so busy with the articles that we do not have time for maintaining a forum. It is not among our plans to create a Facebook site for our page, and we are not present on any microblogs. You can find links to our new articles at our G+ site:
https://plus.google.com/+Sherlockiansherlock221b

We are determined to offer interesting articles and we are persistent enough. We really, seriously wanted to create this site and we will not give up on it. We do not have a forum but you find engaging pieces on the page.

We would like to offer a complex overview of the topic of Sherlock Holmes, that is why we do not want to fritter our activities. Of course we are aware of the fact that many users of Twitter and Facebook refer to our site ( Feedback from the Sherlockian world - You told about us ) - our sincere thanks for that. We strongly believe that we achieved it with quality work and we would like to carry on with that in the future. We do our best to deserve the trust of our readers, who voluntarily advertise our work.

3. Where should I begin to read at the site?

Sherlock is a significant part of the culture for more than 120 years. He is a character that appeared the most often in movies, theatres and literary works. You simply cannot get to know him adequatly by watching some films and reading articles. As the topic is huge, it is highly recommended for those who want to deal with it seriously to expend time on learning about Holmes. It makes it easier if you visit the site regularly and gradually discover the world of the great detective.

' They say that genius is an infinite capacity for taking pains,' he remarked with a smile. ' It's a very bad definition, but it does apply to detective work.' - Sherlock Holmes A Study in Scarlet

- The What’s new site or G+ site

5. Who creates the website?

A small group of Hungarians. You can read their introductions here:

REVATI - translator

Tasks: translating, keeping contact, writing articles, brainstorming, games

My name is Zsófia Marincsák, I was born in 1979, and I live in a small town in the eastern part of Hungary. I graduated as agricultural engineer and English translator. I was 12 when I first read the Holmes stories, this was followed by the fantastic Granada series, which is my favourite, and my opinion is that Jeremy Brett is the truest Sherlock. I also like the BBC series and the adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles starring Richard Roxburgh and Ian Hart.

I am responsible for keeping contact in English with different Sherlock Holmes societies and I translate articles for both versions of our site. The Victorian era is very close to my heart, I love its mood and style. My favourite pastime is reading and cross stitching and I like gardening. My other interests are: animal and environment protection, Buddhism, organic farming, fine art (artists I like the most are Mucha, Magritte, van Gogh, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Munch, Kahlo, Monet, Vermeer, Bosch and Klimt). I am fond of animals: dogs, horses, wolves, butterflies, etc.

It was a great honour to me that my article appeared in the online magazine of The Sherlock Holmes Society of India. You can read it here: Sherlock Holmes, the compassionate detective

My opinion on Sherlock Holmes: I like in Sherlock Holmes

SHERLOCKEXTRA - webmaster

Tasks: programming, design, creating videos, writing articles, brainstorming, games

My motto is: " Set a big and worthwhile goal for yourself. Keep close to God. Study hard. Be yourself. Take responsibility -- don't dodge it! " - Basil Rathbone

My name is Adrienn Fray. ( Adrienn just like Rocky Balboa's wife: Adrian. Fray means sibling, "bud" in spanish language. ) I was born in November 1980. I live in Budapest, the capital of a small country in the heart of Europe. My favourite hobbies are homepage making, listening to music and reading. I am a happy woman and love all the wonders Sherlock Holmes represents. The Hungarian Sherlock site was my idea, while this, the English version is a real teamwork. I'm very lucky, because I found a wonderful editor, who is amazing woman.

Note: It is a great honour for me that I am the webmaster of the site of actor László Tahi Tóth, who was the Hungarian voice of Jeremy Brett in the Granada series. The dubbed versions of Sherlock Holmes

11. May I copy articles/texts from the site?

No. The articles and pictures on the site are copyrighted. But it is not worth to copy things for another reason. Google, the biggest search engine likes unique content, copied material is not so valuable for it. By copying you cut down the value of your own site, which may lead to a drop in visitor numbers. If you would like to recommend something from the site, simply give its link to your visitors.

12. How can I advertise on the Sherlockian site?

If you would like to place an advert on the site, Contact us

13. Why is it worth to follow our G+ site?

Because though we mark the new articles in the What’s new site section, there are several new additions (videos, games) that appear on the G+ site.
